DOH had discharged 37 people that had been quarantined, leaving 1 4-year-old still under observation

37 people had already been released after they had been tested negative of the A(H1N1) virus while one child, a 4 year old, is still under observation and hopefully the result will be out soon whether or not she has the dreaded virus or not.

Mario Villaverde, the Health Undersecretary, said that the 4 year old is still in quarantine after traveling from the United States where there were 3 deaths in total out of the 2,600 confirmed cases. The girl from the Bicol region is being observed in Alabang, Muntinlupa at the RITM or the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.

The test is conducted using the testing kit that was sent by the World Health Organization to confirm the presence of the A(H1N1) virus. We didn’t have this kit before and all suspected people with the virus were put on quarantine. The confirmatory test after the kit had arrived made it possible for the Philippines to detect the virus right away just like in several other countries that got the kit earlier.

So far, 30 countries had already confirmed that they got the dreaded A(H1N1) virus and so far there are still no confirmed cases of the strain in the Philippines. With the 30 countries contaminated with the virus, a total of 61 people had already died out of the 5,251 cases announced. The majority of these cases are still in Mexico and the United States but Canada and Costa Rica have 1 casualty each.
