Today, the entire country is in mourning as the first female President of our country had succumbed to her colon cancer. She was 76 years old.
The former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer last year and was fighting for her life as she saw the flood of support given to her by the Filipino people. Her cancer unfortunately had spread to her other organs and it was just time that can tell when her body would give in to the disease.
Prayers and masses were offered to her for a miracle or for at least to stop her suffering but finally, early this morning her body succumbed to the disease. Boy Abunda was interviewed and said that Cory Aquino took her last breath when her children were all praying around her bed and during the last mystery of the rosary, she succumbed.
Corazon “Cory” Aquino put a dictator out of the Presidency with the People Power after Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino was killed. Democracy was again reigning in our country when Corazon “Cory” Aquino won as the President of the Philippines. Her words were respected and followed by people not because they have to but because they believe in her because she is a sincere person and well loved by the Filipinos.
Her wake would be held in De La Salle Catholic school of Manila and she would be buried right beside her husband at the Manila Memorial Park during a private ceremony that only friends and family could attend. Everybody else could come and visit her wake though and the family had already announced about how the wake would transpire and how the Filipino people could come and pay respect to the former President.
Corazon “Cory” Aquino would be greatly missed and our country had lost 1 very inspiring person that our people need to look for strength and guidance. Just like Mayor Alfredo Lim said, Corazon “Cory” Aquino was the best President that our country has ever had. To you tita Cory, Paalam.
