The final (?) State of the Nation Address by GMA

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo hits back on her critics during her 9th and last State of the Nation Address or SONA and she defended her way of governance as she promise to continue fighting for the benefit of all the Filipino people as well as to keep our economy afloat up to her last day in office on June of 2010.

At the end of her State of the Nation Address she said that she will already be stepping down from the stage but not from the presidency. Her term as president will still end next year and she said that she would continue her fight for the Filipino people.  She also added that being the head of state means so much responsibility and lots of things to do and because she puts the nation first, she has to do her job up to the very end.

It’s great that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo started her speech by making a prayer for the former President Cory Aquino who is battling for her life at the moment with colon cancer.

One of the highlights of her speech is when she said that she will never ever declare martial law and for the last years of being in office, she hasn’t declared it yet.  She also said thank you to the Filipinos for giving her the opportunity to serve as the President of our country.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was unafraid to blow unnamed critics who had been criticizing her and saying that she doesn’t want to leave her post as President when they are the ones who want to cling to their posts. She also said that she had been falsely accused many times and said that they should start discussing on how to build the country and not how they would tear down their opponents.
