First H1N1 death in Asia is a Filipina

The first death involving the A(H1N1) virus had been confirmed in the Philippines and is the first death in Asia. It’s a 49 year old woman who had died from her congestive heart failure but was also tested to be positive with the pandemic virus.

The heart disease of the patient was only aggravated by severe pneumonia and had only shown signs of the virus 2 days before she died on June 19.

The Department of Health had already warned the elderly and those with prior health problems when the A(H1N1) virus was already spreading worldwide. They say that those with health problems are the most susceptible for fatality with the virus as their immune system is very weak thus the virus could add to their condition and can cause death.

With over 400 cases of A(H1N1) virus in the Philippines, many are now recovering or had already recovered.
