The young girl, Geraldine Palma, who went missing in 2007 was finally identified as the girl whose body was kept in a suitcase. Finally, she was identified through DNA and this would mean that the investigation can now proceed further. Dindin Palma was indeed kidnapped and the primary suspect was her nanny, Maritess Ontog, who was also missing since the time that Geraldine had been kidnapped. Until this time, Ontog is still missing and there are 5 more suspects that were already arrested and charged for kidnapping and homicide.
The body of the young child was identified to be Geraldine Palma because it matches the DNA of her mother Felma Estravela and when that matches, it means that the probability of the femur of the young child came from Geraldine is 99.99% unless if Felma has another child suspected to be the body as well. But the drama of the story does not stop here. The thought father, Gerald Palma, had grieved for his dead daughter but the DNA result showed that Gerald isn’t really Geraldine’s real father. Gerald and Felma are live-in partners and this is indeed a big revelation but will not be affecting the results of the case.
DNA tests done in the Philippines for this case in the past were inconclusive because of formaline contamination. This time around, the test was conducted in Sarajevo, Bosnia under the International Commission on Missing Persons or ICMP.
