Gibo’s presidential bid is growing stronger than ever. For the past weeks, people eventually knew the real person in Gibo that made them back the man in green.
Various volunteer groups supporting the candidacy of Lakas-Kampi-CMD frontrunner Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. have strengthened forces to guarantee the victory of the former defense secretary in the May 2010 presidential elections. The official launching of the Gibo for President Volunteer Center in Jaro district was one of the highlights of what was believed to be Teodoro’s swift maneuver in Iloilo that turned into a whole day festivities of support for the 1989 bar topnotcher.
Local leaders of Iloilo and neighboring provinces who greeted Teodoro during his Iloilo trip included Governor Sally Perez Zaldivar, Passi City Mayor Jessry Palmares, former Iloilo Gov. Sim Grino, and retired Assistant City Prosecutor Jose Naranjo, who is founder-chairman of the Volunteer Center.
During an event hosted by Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia in Argao, Cebu last month Zaldivar is among the 30 governors and mayors from all over the Visayas who affirmed in split manifestors their solid support for Gibo’s presidential proposition.
A number of 300 bikers, members of the local Volkswagen Club, and supporters ushered Gibo in a motorcade from the Iloilo airport to Jaro City, where he took part at the official opening of the newly-opened Volunteer Center. Gibo also attended the birthday celebration of Palmares at the Kawilihan resort and another occasion at the Parish Jubilee Center that was attended by more than 2,000 people.
According to Naranjo, Gibo also received a rock-star welcome from some 3,000 students at the Central Philippine University (CPU). The Lakas-Kampi-CMD candidate dropped by to talk with CPU students and teachers in what was thought to be a concise stroll, however ended up as an hour-long question-and-answer.
“There’s a tremendous hunger for Gibo here in Iloilo,” observed Naranjo.
“Everybody’s interested about him, and seeing him up close, hearing him talks, has virtually converted many voters here. It is apparent that an ever increasing number of voters see Gibo as the most qualified candidate in this year’s presidential race, judging from his qualifications, track record at the defense department and in Congress, and his impressive performance in presidential debates,” Naranjo said.
