Our famous Mayon volcano had shown signs of activity recently and PHIVOLCS is keeping an eye on it for a possible eruption that is believed to be a hazardous gas eruption and not the lava flowing kind.

The resident volcanologist in Bicol, Ed Laguerta of PHIVOLCS said that this eruption if ever it will transpire would be different from the 2006 eruption where there was only a lava flow. This time, he said, it can lead to an eruption that is hazardous because of its pyroclastic flow meaning it travels much faster than lava and can be up to 1000 degrees Celsius in temperature.  It is similar to its behavior in 1993 which killed 77 people and destroying their land.  

The scientists of PHIVOLCS have detected that the activity of the volcano is low degrasshign which means that it contains more gaseous material inside thus would produce a pyroclastic flow which is far scarier than slow moving molten lava.
