Jejomar Binay, the mayor of Makati said that the public support for the late Corazon “Cory” Aquino should be a warning to GMA not to push for the Charter Change. He said that the procession of people during her funeral shows that our people are really capable of staging another people power if ever the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo would cling to her power beyond her term as President which will end next year, 2010.
The death of Cory had bridged the gap of two generations of the people who were there during EDSA 1 and the younger ones who was not aware about the 1986 people power and how it led to the freedom that they are enjoying now with no dictator holding the presidency anymore. If, Binay said, Arroyo would push for her agenda to stay in power after her term, the people together with Cory’s spirit will rally against her.
Cory Aquino had showed us how important it is to stand up and fight against an oppressor. She showed our country that even she was just a plain housewife, just an ordinary private citizen, she was able to stand up against the dictator and we all can do the same. She showed us that she may just be 1 person but she inspired millions and led us all to democracy. We all have the same power if we just push for it. Cory Aquino showed us the way, it is our decision if we follow or not. With how her funeral had transpired showed that the Filipinos still love our country very much and are still willing to fight for it no matter what and whoever oppresses the justice and the rights of the Filipino people.
